DESCRIPTION:With a TM Teacher John Cowhig and Special Guest Dr. Neil Paterson. \nIn September\, 2025\, Dr. Paterson gave us a slideshow and presentation on the founding years of Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation organization: 1954 to 1980. This Tuesday\, 20th January\, he will give the second part of that presentation: 1980 to present. \nMaharishi began teaching TM in India in 1954 with a lofty goal: to develop the full inner and outer potential of everyone in the world and to create world peace. \nAt that time\, meditation was usually viewed as a practice that required concentration and control — reserved for those willing to live a monastic life. Maharishi changed all that. With his introduction of the easy-to-learn Transcendental Meditation® technique\, he sparked a global revolution in the understanding\, teaching\, practice\, and scientific investigation of meditation. \nIn 1958\, Maharishi embarked on a series of world tours\, establishing teaching centres around the globe. He created universities and colleges\, pioneered scientific research to confirm the benefits of TM\, revived ancient Vedic technologies such as Ayurveda preventative health and Vedic architecture\, authored scores of books and courses\, gave thousands of lectures\, and much more. \nDr. Neil Paterson\, who worked with Maharishi for over 30 years\, will take us on a slide show of the later history (1980 to present) of Maharishi’s remarkable journey\, an odyssey that changed the world. \nNeil is the Director of Administration for the International Transcendental Meditation Organization and serves on its board of directors\, as well as being involved in most of its major projects. \nIn the 1970s\, he served as Maharishi’s personal secretary and subsequently oversaw the organization’s activities in North America. Since then\, he has held numerous senior roles worldwide\, working with Maharishi and now with Dr. Tony Nader\, Maharishi’s successor\, as one of his most able executives. \nPlease join us for an insight into the history of Maharishi’s Transcendental Organization.
