MOVIE SYNOPSIS
A Taste of Utopia is a collective narrative exploring the Maharishi Effect: the positive influence large groups of meditating experts can have on society when practicing Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques together.
The narrative begins with the largest peace assembly in recent history, held in Hyderabad, India, last January, featuring dialogues with some of its 10,000 participants—including meditators, scientists, and leaders of the TM Organization. The documentary examines the scientific foundations of this phenomenon, offering a historical perspective on major past experiments, demonstrations, scientific publications, and successful stories.
The film explores the teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who posited that consciousness is a fundamental field of nature—like electromagnetism or gravity—that can be stimulated and influenced through meditation techniques, affecting even non-meditators and mitigating negative social trends.
Examples of success in history are many, and this documentary recounts some of them. One above all: the invaluable testimony of former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano who, after introducing Transcendental Meditation in his country, quickly achieved an end to a 13-year civil conflict and created unprecedented economic and cultural growth.
