There is a saying, “Join the Navy and See the World,” which often applies to TM teachers! In 1973, Rig Gelfand began working with Maharishi in Seelisberg, Switzerland — the former international headquarters of the Transcendental Meditation Organization. Since then, he has assumed innumerable roles in Europe, North America, and Asia.

• Served as Maharishi’s personal secretary from 1974 to 1975.
• Taught three teacher training courses in Switzerland from 1975 to 1979.
• Spent four years as director of housing, overseeing our headquarters in Seelisberg and international courses with over 4,000 course participants across 40-50 hotels in Switzerland, France, Germany, and Italy—akin to running a multi-national organization.
• Taught TM in several cities in Canada, as well as Washington D.C., Paris, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.
• Held various positions from 1990 until 2005 at Maharishi International University (MIU)
• Became the athletic director for the Maharishi School.
• Currently serves as the Director of Safety and Security at MIU.

Rig is a gifted leader with an infectious sense of humor. Having worked with him for many of those years, we look forward to a lively conversation, sharing our experiences trying to ‘do the impossible:’ teaching TM around the world and reaching for Maharishi’s mandate of world peace.
