A Sanctuary for Girls: Thailand’s Dhammajarinee Witthaya School (DWS)
Join us this Tuesday, 21 October, to hear the inspiring story of an ideal school saving the lives of at-risk girls.
Dhammajarinee Witthaya School (DWS) is a remarkable free boarding school in Thailand dedicated to orphaned, impoverished, and at-risk girls. These are children who would otherwise have no safe housing or access to quality education.
Led by the courageous Buddhist nun, Dr. Aunampai Passakchai, DWS supports over 1,000 students from kindergarten through grade 12. But this is more than just a school — it’s a sanctuary. In this safe haven, vulnerable girls are shielded from poverty, trafficking, early pregnancy, and hardship. They are empowered to become educated, confident, and compassionate young women.
A Model for Success
- The school has offered the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhis® program since 2006, with profound results for both students and teachers.
- 90% of DWS graduates go on to attend university, in stark contrast to only 5% of low-income students in Thailand.
- These girls emerge with the skills and self-assurance to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
Our special guest: Sarah Bence is the Director of Development at DWS. She will share stories, videos, and updates from the school, showcasing how their programs transform young lives and create a warm, nurturing environment where students thrive both academically and emotionally.
In addition to her role at DWS, Sarah teaches TM in Scotland and serves as the Head of Fundraising and Partnerships for the David Lynch Foundation UK. She has a strong background in nonprofits and philanthropy, with a special focus on girls’ equality, education, social entrepreneurship, and homelessness.
Please join us this Tuesday, October 21st, 2025, at 2 pm ET (11 am PT) to learn about this powerful model of an ideal school.
